Chinese Snuff Boxes

Our fine glass and crystal snuff boxes are entirely hand-painted and produced using Chinese craftsmanship. The level of detail of the patterns drawn inside and on these bottles requires several days of work for the painters. Also called “snuff bottles”, Chinese snuff bottles come in the form of small vials protecting the tobacco from humidity. Most of our Chinese snuff bottles have a small agate stopper. During ancient China (Qing Dynasty), smoking tobacco was illegal. However, snuff was allowed, since tobacco was considered a remedy for colds, nausea, migraines or stomach aches. It is for this reason that snuff boxes are today part of Chinese cultural heritage.
