A prayer mill is an object of Buddhist ritual consisting of a cylinder (mill) filled with mantras (prayers) and freely rotating around an axis on which the mantra is wound. Each mill Tower is considered a recitation of the mantra.
The prayer mill turns clockwise, which is the meaning of reading the mantra. After a rotation, the power of mantras activates and grants protection and merit (Punya). Symbolically, turning a prayer mill means "turning the wheel of Dharma," which describes how Buddha taught.
